Remodel at The Eye Institute of Utah – Staff Says Goodbye to Fireplace

DSC_0155Today marked a bitter-sweet but momentous occasion at The Eye Institute of Utah. Employees gathered around to roast marshmallows and say goodbye to the beloved granite fireplace that has warmed the main waiting room in the first floor clinic since the ophthalmology practice opened back in 1980, more than 30 years ago. The fireplace is being removed as part of a large and exciting remodel to help expand diagnostic testing areas and make aesthetic and functional upgrades to improve the patient’s experience and the functionality of the clinic. The remodel began on December 20, 2013 and is scheduled to be completed by late Spring 2014.

With the recent addition of several administrative staff members and two new ophthalmologists within the past year, it was time to expand and make changes to accommodate the growth of the practice so we could continue to offer the best technology and treatments to our patients. Changes will include an expanded, centralized testing center, a new clinical research area, energy efficient lighting, more patient accessible restrooms and an easier check-in/check-out process at the front desk.

The clinical and surgical center will remain open during the construction period and the administrative and construction crews have been working hard to minimize any disturbances to patients, examinations, and wait times during the remodel.
