Dr. Robert Cionni Becomes 2015/2016 ASCRS President

Dr. Robert J. Cionni assumed his role as President of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) at the Opening General Session of the ASCRS Annual Congress and Symposium in San Diego on Saturday, April 18. Dr. Cionni is the Medical Director of The Eye Institute of Utah and a world-renowned ophthalmologist, specializing in complex cataract and refractive surgery.

The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery is an international, educational organization dedicated to advancing the field of ophthalmology. Its mission is to advance the art and science of ophthalmic surgery and the knowledge and skills of ophthalmic surgeons by providing clinical and practice management education and by working with patients, government, and the medical community to promote the delivery and advancement of high-quality eye care.

Dr. Cionni has established himself as a leader in his specialty by developing some of the most advanced surgical devices and implant techniques in addition to his ongoing commitment to clinical research and innovation. He has lectured worldwide on laser refractive cataract surgery and published numerous articles and research on the use of advance technology intraocular lens (IOL) implants such as multifocal and Toric lenses. Dr. Cionni has also been instrumental in the continued advancement of laser cataract surgery by working with Alcon Labs to conduct clinical research for the LenSx Femtosecond Laser.
