Celebrating Ophthalmic Personnel – Consider a Career in Ophthalmology!

eyeinstitute-2_25_newIn recognition of Allied Ophthalmic Personnel Week, we wanted to take a moment to highlight and thank our highly trained and dedicated ophthalmic staff members. For more than 35 years, The Eye Institute of Utah has been a leader in the field of ophthalmology with a dedication to innovating and advancing eye care in Utah and around the world. In support of this commitment to excellence, it is vitally important that all members of our team meet the high quality standards that have been set and upheld for more than three decades.

Technicians play an important role in the examination process by working under the direction of board-certified ophthalmologists and optometrists to perform many of the tests, scans and measurements utilized during eye examinations to diagnose and treat patients.

Upon hire, technicians here at The Eye Institute of Utah begin the process of studying to pass the Certified Ophthalmic Assistant examination process offered by JCAHPO (Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel). Newly hired technicians spend a significant amount of time shadowing and being mentored by doctors and seasoned technicians to learn the ins and outs of ophthalmology. Once a staff member obtains their COA certification, they are required to take continuing education (CE) courses to stay well versed in the rapidly advancing and evolving field of ophthalmology.

One of the most vital areas of any eye care practice is the administrative and patient services team that interacts with our current and prospective patients’ day in and day out. This sector of our team is comprised of members of our front desk staff, phone counselors, surgery schedulers, research team, and billing department. Their goal is to assist and educate patients with a high level of professionalism and patience, while providing top notch customer service. Many members of our patient services team have passed the Certified Patient Service Specialist (CPSS) exam, a program that sets a national standard of excellence in quality patient care and customer service for ophthalmic staff.

We are very proud of the caliber of our ophthalmic personnel, and are always seeking friendly and driven individuals to join our team!
