Kevin H. Merkley, MD, MBA, is one of Utah’s most experienced refractive and corneal surgeons, having performed more than 12,000 LASIK and cataract procedures. He has published articles and letters in several leading journals, including the American Journal of Ophthalmology, the Journal of Refractive Surgery and the Western Journal of Medicine. Prior to joining The Eye Institute of Utah, Dr. Merkley served as medical director for several local laser eye centers and as an established private practitioner in the Salt Lake area.

History
Because of his expertise in refractive and corneal surgery, Dr. Merkley guest lectures at national meetings on eye care and participates in a number of ophthalmic and non-ophthalmic clinical studies.
Dr. Merkley completed his undergraduate work at Utah State University, his MBA at Brigham Young University, and his medical degree at the University of Utah. His post-graduate work included an internship at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania; a residency in ophthalmology at St. Luke's Hospital in Cleveland; and a fellowship in corneal and anterior segment surgery at the University of California – Irvine.
